Portico Quartet

Portico Quartet is a jazz band from London. I thought it would fit Berklee students’ taste a bit more than what I posted earlier.
So they play Jazz, but hey, did you think I was going to write about a usual band? No. Of course they use electronic music. An MPC to be precise. The MPC is the old classic beat making machine used by every hip hop producer in the 90’s and early 2000’s.
They also use a weird instrument, the Hang Drum, an instrument created by Swiss engineers that allows you to play a whole scale, with very beautiful sounds.
Anyway, Portico Quartet is interesting as they mix up Jazz with modern music, in a very poetic way. The repetitiv bassline and the sample-based beat in this song are signs of a desire to take jazz somewhere else.
This genre mix deserves all your attention.
